How to get past writer’s block…
I haven’t written in weeks. Partially because I’m in a life rut — a transitional period, really. But a rut none-the-less.
I reread my pages and they don’t connect. The ideas have morphed so much that they no longer link together and I contemplate rewriting everything. But as I look it over I see that in some distant way they can connect. I’m not sure how at this moment, but I know they will. That’s how I wrote my first book — trusting the process and connecting pages that I’d never planned to link together.
It’s such an incredible feeling when you can write such different portions of a story, maybe even hundreds of pages apart from one another, and they come together seamlessly. It even gives you the chance to throw in some more foreshadowing.
While I was writing my first book I was worried that I made things too obvious; that my readers would guess where the story was headed or the intentions of the characters. But once I received feedback and reviews that people were shocked and flabbergasted by my work, I knew I’d done something right. That I was a good writer.
And I know I am. A good writer. I just need to trust the process. Keep going. Write whatever comes to mind. And it’ll all figure itself out eventually. I know this book can be amazing. I’m just excited to see where it all ends up and the way it carries readers onto the next one.
So, my friend. The way to get past writer’s block is to keep writing. Even if you don’t have a direction. Even if you don’t know what character’s to add. Trust yourself. Trust in your characters. Because they will lead you exactly where they need to go.
I believe in you. Keep writing. Keep pursuing your dreams. Keep being you. Because you are deserving of everything you’re working towards.
